Recap of Slush 2013 (Dec 2013)
Slush 2013 was better than any of the prime Silicon Valley Startup events: Techcrunch Disrupt, DEMO or Launch. This was my first time at Slush, and I was blown away by the number of people 5,000 and startups 1,000. The event might have had a lesser number of Startup luminaries, but it took back with enthusiasm and 650 volunteers who made everything work seamlessly.
Dark Helsinki is an odd location for an international event, but the pre-party in a half-finished subway tunnel really made things seem surreal.
The first day event was kicked off my Prime Minister of Finland and the Mighty Eagle of Rovio. I had a change to share my 5 cent on future of healthcare together with Kristian Segerstrale (Intial Capital) and Francesco De Rubertis (Index Ventures). The panel was moderated by Timo Ahopelto (Lifeline Ventures).
On the second day the Slush team had upgraded BetterDoctor to the Demo Showcase competition. After two rounds of pitches we won the contest out of 20 handpicked companies. It was great end of a wonderful week in Finland.
