It’s a quite surreal feeling when half of the Austin Convention Center is packed with evacuees from Ike and other half with people building virtual worlds. This if anything is a clash of different realities: real drama meets virtual drama.
Same feeling is very much evident in hotels. Business hotels packed with families who would way rather be anywhere else. Surprisingly enough no one has taken this surreal aspect up on any of the talks so far, maybe people want to stick with the planned talk or then the human misery could be too much to deal with.
From the games perspective the Austin GDC seems to have a good place for itself. Turning from ordinary games conference into connected games conference seems to work well. And I already feel I learned something today, I think so at least.
